Almost all major sporting events have been canceled and the fans are now urging another one to postpone one of the most anticipated events in sports entertainment due to coronavirus concerns.
After being named as the opponent of current WWE Universal Champion Goldberg, Roman Reigns reportedly decided to pull out of his Wrestlemania match to take care of his health. Reports from Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet said that the former champion changed his mind and now doesn’t feel comfortable doing the shows after all that he’s gone through his previous health battles.
Reigns’ health issues were highly publicized as he revealed on an episode of Monday Night Raw about his battle with leukemia where he relinquished his Universal Championship, the same title he’s supposed to fight against the current champ, to focus on his recovery. He’s had it 11 years before announcing it in 2018.
Reigns is immunocompromised and didn’t want to risk his health, especially after he battled with leukemia twice. The same reports said that his request was granted by the WWE and is now looking for a possible replacement to take his place. The wrestler, however, is yet to be determined.
In his Twitter account, Reigns shared a message about the hardship of kids, especially those with cancer, during this situation.
WWE has been observing safety precautions as they canceled all their live shows in different cities and decided to do it inside the WWE Performance Center, as well as checking everybody’s temperatures and making sure that they are in perfect health before entering the facility. They also announced that the initial plan of doing Wrestlemania 36 in Tampa, FL was also dropped and is now going to be held in the same venue and will be a two-day streaming event.
With one of the PPV’s main attraction already pulled his name out of the line-up, fans cannot help but urge WWE CEO Vince McMahon to cancel Wrestlemania for the sake of everybody’s health. McMahon and the WWE, though, hasn’t released a statement regarding the outcry of fans.
