Tiger Woods announced Friday that he will skip next week’s WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.
Woods’ decision means that he will head into the PGA Championship in San Francisco on Aug. 6-9 having competed in just one event in the revised schedule of the tour.
The 15-time major winner, who is ranked 14th in the world, tied for 40th place last week at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio.
Woods, 44, has played in just four events this season. He won the Zozo Championship in October, tied for ninth place at the Farmers Insurance Open and finished last among the players that made the cut at the Genesis Invitational.
Woods’ next win will be his 83rd on the PGA Tour. That would vault Woods ahead of Sam Snead for most all-time victories.
