A SADISTIC killer allegedly forced his ex to watch him mutilate her new partner’s genitals with a Samurai sword after tying her up with electric cables at their holiday home.
Police launched a manhunt when the traumatised woman managed to free herself after being made to witness her boyfriend’s horrific murder in small Portuguese village Gondufe near the country’s northern border with Spain.
The search ended when detectives discovered the sole suspect, named locally as Spaniard Carlos Sande Fidalgo, had ended his own life by throwing himself off a bridge.
The macabre sequence of events was still under investigation today as the full horror of the grisly murder-suicide began to emerge.
The body of the alleged assassin, a real estate businessman based in the Galician city of Vigo said to have been unable to accept his former wife’s new relationship, was found on Wednesday morning near Rande Bridge spanning Vigo Bay.
Spanish police alerted colleagues in Portugal who had been hunting for the man suspected of the brutal murder of a 53-year-old in front of his partner at their rented holiday home in the village of Gondufe.
Local reports said the dead man’s partner, the suspect’s ex-wife, had her hands tied behind her back with electric cables before being forced to watch as her partner had his genitals mutilated over six hours with weapons like knives and another described as a Japanese sword known as a katana.
The dead man has been named locally as Luis Miguel Fernandez and his partner as Nuria Rodriguez Gonzalez.
Portuguese daily Diario de Noticias said police investigators suspect Nuria’s ex-husband placed a GPS tracker on her car so he could follow her movements following their split earlier this year.
Police were alerted after the alleged killer fled the property and his ex, who needed hospital treatment for shock and injuries caused by the ties around her wrists and legs, managed to alert the authorities.
He is understood to have fled the scene of the crime in his ex-wife’s jeep before deliberately crashing it near the property and switching to a black BMW 740 he owned which was found near the bridge.
His body was found around 10am on Wednesday by coastguards participating in the search along with police.
All three people involved, including the victims, were initially described as Spanish although it later emerged the dead man’s family had emigrated to France from their native Galicia in the sixties.
Locals in the Galician town of Entrimo, where Luis Miguel’s family originally came from, paid their last respects yesterday/on Friday as they gathered with home-made placards expressing their horror at the brutal murder.
Police sources said evidence was pointing to the alleged killer breaking into the property his ex and her new partner were renting after tracking them down, before lashing out in jealousy following his failure to accept the end of his marriage.
Carlos and his former wife are said to have split in March.
