A WOMAN has today died after falling into a river when two boats collided in Norfolk.
The victim, who was in her 30s, became trapped under a boat on the River Bure in Great Yarmouth just before 1.30pm this afternoon.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and declared it a “very serious incident”.
Police have now confirmed the woman, from London, sadly died at the scene.
Norfolk Police said: “Officers attended the scene, along with Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service, the Coastguard and the East of England Ambulance Service.
“However, the woman, aged in her 30s and from the London area, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“A cordon has been put in place around the boat and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the incident and how the woman came to be in the water.”
HM Coastguard patrol officers, four fire engines, four ambulances, divers, police and an RNLI lifeboat were all called to the incident.
Humbler Coastguard said two vessels collided near Great Yarmouth Yacht Station and emergeny services described it as a “very serious” crash.
The Broads Authority tweeted: “Due to an ongoing incident on the River Bure at Great Yarmouth, the river between Breydon Water and Stracey Arms is closed until further notice.”
