Walmart Drive-In Movie Showing Locations Will Feature Surprise Guest Appearances And More

Businesses around the country continue to amend their everyday practices to adhere to the CDC’s social distancing guidelines amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Now, Walmart and the Tribeca Film Festival are partnering in order to offer customers a new way to have a bit of fun while also combating the spread of COVID-19–by introducing the upcoming Walmart Drive-in.

Beginning on Aug. 14, the Walmart Drive-in will convert the parking lots outside of 160 Supercenters into outdoor cinemas, Entertainment Weekly reports. The new effort will run until Oct. 21 and will offer 320 showings of popular movies.

As for what will be shown throughout the course of the Walmart Drive-In campaign, the curated assortment will include a variety of well-known films from a range of genres.

Sports fans will likely be interested in watching movies such as “Space Jam,” Friday Night Lights,” and “The Karate Kid,” while moviegoers who prefer blockbuster franchises can instead watch “The LEGO Batman Movie,” “Pokémon Detective Pikachu,” and others.

Other family-friendly films, such as Disney’s “Cars” and “Madagascar” will also be shown at various locations. Additionally, the Walmart Drive-In will also offer something for those who like classic tales, like “Beetlejuice” and “The Wizard of Oz,” and comic book-based franchises, such as “Wonder Woman.” 

Before each feature presentation, audiences will also get to see a number of short films, ranging from “Marooned” to “Looney Tunes’ Boo! Appetweet.”

While Drew Barrymore will serve as a virtual host for each screening, she will also make a surprise in-person appearance at a special location. Other celebrities, such as NBA star LeBron James and “Alias” actress Jennifer Garner are also slated to appear at select showings. 

“We recognize the challenges our customers and their families have faced over the last few months and we wanted to create an experience where they could come together safely to create new memories,” said Janey Whiteside, Walmart’s chief customer officer. “The Walmart Drive-in is one small way we’re supporting the communities we serve.”

Those who are interested in attending one of the Walmart Drive-In events can visit the official website in order to see the full list of dates, locations, and movies on each stop of the tour. Tickets are free but must be requested in advance as they will not be available at the gate.
