A SUMMER holiday in 2021 may already be off the cards as camping and caravan bookings surge by 500 per cent.
With trips abroad remaining uncertain, Brits are instead staying closer to home with staycation holidays on the rise.
Campsites and holiday parks are already seeing soaring bookings for next year, as families look to make the most of the summer holidays in 2021.
Camping website Pitchup.com has had 1,400 bookings for next summer – an increase of 500 per cent – while Canopy and Stars who offer glamping holidays have more bookings for August 2021 than this August.
Alistair Handyside, who owns three three cottages in south Devon, told the Guardian that it is “highly likely” there will be a shortage of bookings for next summer as foreign travel remains a worry for many families.
Farmers have been letting out their land as campsites due to a shortage this year, which some say they will continue doing next year if bookings continue to soar.
Vikkie Huxtable, who owns a working farm in Devon, launched camping on-site with pop-up Stitchpool, and told Sun Online Travel: “While we’re only opening for August, we will probably do it again next year.”

Charles Millward, the owner of Staycation Holidays, told The Times: “People should be worried about finding availability next year, a lot of dates are already taken because they will have been moved from this year – one of our properties only has three weekends free next year from March til September.
“In general our properties will increase in price next year by 20 per cent to recoup the cost owners lost during the lockdown. One property we’re booking for next year has gone up by 50 per cent.”
