Two buildings collapse in southern France, 2 wounded: report

PARIS, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) — Two buildings collapsed in the southern French city of Marseille on Monday, injuring at least two passersby, according to local report.

At around 09:00 local time (0800 GMT), two buildings collapsed in the first district in Marseille near the Old Port, while another building risks to collapse, BFMTV news channel said in its report.

It added that at least two people were injured.

A photo tweeted by prefecture of des Bouches-du-Rhone showed a huge pile of rubbles. It urged people to avoid entering the area and make way for the emergency services.

Quoted as saying by local media, Sabine Bernasconi, the local mayor of the 1st and 7th districts of Marseille, said one of the buildings was in poor condition and had been subject to an evacuation order. However, she added that eventual squatters might have been using it.

Forty rescuers, 30 police officers and 20 vehicles were mobilized to seek for possible victims.
