Following a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump returned to the White House, and a suspect is being held.
According to a statement from Anthony Guglielmi, head of communications for the U.S. Secret Service, there was a gunshot incident close to the Washington Hilton’s main security screening area. One individual is being held while law enforcement investigates the event.
The president, first lady, and Cabinet officials who attended the meal are all safe, according to Guglielmi.
At a news conference upon his return to the White House, Trump expressed his belief that this was a “lone wolf” incident while applauding the Secret Service’s and law enforcement’s reaction to the threat.
There was no sign of a political or other motivation, according to Trump, but “we’ll find out very quickly” about this “very sick person.”
The suspect is in custody and was sent to the hospital, as the FBI had already confirmed in a statement.
According to The Washington Post, the suspect and a wounded Secret Service member have been transported to the hospital.
According to police enforcement in Washington, D.C., Cole Thomas Allen, 31, of Torrence, California, stormed the ballroom doors with a shotgun.
At the Washington press organization’s annual conference, dinner was being served when gunfire could be heard coming from the ballroom. Many people in the room froze.
