Tottenham news: Ben Chilwell is a transfer target

Chilwell could make his senior England debut tonight after being added to the squad by Gareth Southgate following Luke Shaw’s head injury in the defeat to Spain on Saturday night.

Spurs star Danny Rose is likely to start the friendly against Switzerland but his potential replacement at the club could come off the bench and earn his debut cap for the Three Lions.

Chilwell has nailed down the left-back spot in Leicester’s starting line-up this term, edging out Premier League winner Christian Fuchs.

The defender has been on the radar of England’s biggest clubs for years, with Arsenal and Liverpool both said to have failed with bids before he broke into the Foxes senior side.

And Tottenham could now ramp up their efforts to get him too, report The Telegraph.

They say the 21-year-old could be the subject of a bid next summer, with Rose’s long-term future in north London uncertain.

Ben Davies, the Wales left-back is also on the books at the club.

Chilwell has been joined in the senior squad by Leicester pal Demarai Gray.

Both have been promoted from the Under-21s for the Switzerland friendly.

Shaw, who was concussed after a blow to his head in the loss to Spain, returned to his club Manchester United on Monday.

England face the Swiss after three straight defeats and have never lost four consecutive matches.

Manager Gareth Southgate could make up to nine changes from the team that started England’s Nations League campaign with a 2-1 defeat by Spain at Wembley over the weekend.

Regular skipper Harry Kane’s Spurs team mate Eric Dier will captain the side with the striker given the night off to rest.

The team is likely to include goalkeeper Jack Butland, defenders James Tarkowski, Kyle Walker and Rose, midfielders Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fabian Delph, plus striker Danny Welbeck.
