Tottenham fan’s £100-a-night Amsterdam Airbnb turns out to be roadside SHIPPING container

A TOTTENHAM fan found his £100-a-night Airbnb stay in Amsterdam for the Champions League semi-final was actually a shipping container with a toilet inside.

Ben Speller was looking for a cut price option for the clash against Ajax last week but what he ended up with took basic to a new level.

He booked a “clean home in Amsterdam with a private bathroom” at Pauwenpad, near the Prins Bernhardplein.

What he found for his one night stay was a grey shipping container with three mattresses and a portable toilet inside.

He told Dutch outlet AT5: “We had already driven past the container three times in the taxi trying to find the place. We thought ‘this can’t be it’.

“But when we got out it turned out that it was true. We opened the door and looked inside, locked the door and left. Then we went to a hotel”.

Mr Speller asked the owner for his money back and after being denied he was finally finally refunded the £100 by Airbnb as well as the £230 for the hotel booking.

The “cottage” was taken off the site shortly afterwards.

It is reported that there was no permit for the container and it was towed away by city contractors.

An Airbnb spokesman said: “We have removed the host and listings from our platform.

“Misrepresented or fraudulent listings have no place on our platform and our team works hard to constantly strengthen our defenses and stay ahead of bad actors.”

A previous scam saw a double bed placed in a Peckham car park and listed on the rental site for £8, in March, 2016.

It was described on the Airbnb site as a “private room in a public space” before it was quickly removed by the company.
