‘Totalitarian societal engineering!’ exclaims the narrator. The climate plan of Von der Leyen has been demolished by a Spanish MEP.
A Spanish MEP slammed URSULA VON DER LEYEN’s Green Deal, calling the Commission’s ambitious plan to combat climate change “totalitarian social engineering” at the expense of EU taxpayers.
The Commission published its most ambitious strategy ever to combat climate change on Wednesday, with the goal of putting green ambitions into action this decade and setting an example for the world’s other major economies to follow.
The EU executive outlined in minute detail how the bloc’s 27 member states can achieve their common target of cutting net greenhouse gas emissions by 55 percent from 1990 levels by 2030, a step toward “net zero” emissions by 2050.
This will entail increasing the cost of emitting carbon for heating, transportation, and manufacturing, taxing previously untaxed high-carbon aviation and shipping fuel, and charging importers at the border for carbon produced in the production of products such as cement, steel, and aluminum abroad. It will be the end of the internal combustion engine.
At a press conference, EU climate policy leader Frans Timmermans said, “Yes, it is difficult.” “But it is also a responsibility, because if we fail to aid humanity and live within planetary limitations, we will fail not just ourselves, but also our children and grandchildren.”
Failure would mean “fighting wars over water and food,” he claimed.
Member states and the European Parliament must both approve the “Fit for 55” legislation, which might take two years.
Tighter pollution restrictions will make it impossible to sell petrol and diesel cars in the EU by 2035, according to the recommendations.
Some Commissioners and MEPs have already expressed their opposition to the scheme.
Hermann Tertsch, a Vox MEP, called the scheme “treasury plunder.”
“The European Commission announces the visionary foolishness of well-paid bureaucrats and legislators who scorn reality and the interests of hundreds of millions of Europeans,” he said.
“By 2050, it had already shown to be a mirage.
“And they advance it by 15 years,” says the narrator.
“It’s dictatorial social engineering and treasury looting.”
However, other environmentalists believe the Commission is being too cautious. Greenpeace was outraged.
In a statement, Greenpeace EU head Jorgo Riss remarked, “Celebrating these measures is like a high-jumper receiving a trophy for running in beneath the bar.”
“This entire program is built around a single target.” Brinkwire Summary News.
