Three princesses have left continental Europe to study in the United Kingdom.
THREE European princesses will move to the United Kingdom this autumn to continue their education at some of the country’s most famous institutions.
Three European princesses will be residing in England and Wales in a few weeks. Two of them have already arrived in the United Kingdom ahead of the start of their new studies.
On Monday, Princess Leonor of Spain and Princess Alexia of the Netherlands flew to Wales from their respective homelands.
They will study the International Baccalaureate at UWC Atlantic College in Llantwit Major for the next two years.
Yesterday, their separate royal families said their public farewells in different ways.
Her mother, Queen Letizia, father, King Felipe V, and sister, Infanta Sofia, accompanied Princess Leonor to Madrid’s Adolfo Suarez Barajas Airport.
The Spanish royals were photographed holding the adolescent firmly before waving her off as she passed through the departure gate.
A leather bag, a backpack, and a carry-on suitcase were among the items brought by the 15-year-old.
She also held a green jacket, which she was photographed wearing in Wales after arriving at her new school.
Princess Alexia’s departure from The Hague was commemorated by a photograph shot by the Dutch monarch himself.
Standing right outside their home, King Willem-Alexander took a photograph of his second daughter.
The 16-year-old monarch was photographed wearing ripped trousers and a plaid red-and-black top over a long-sleeved shirt.
She smiled at the camera while carrying two large black bags on her shoulders.
“Princess Alexia is going for the United World College of the Atlantic (UWC Atlantic College) in Llantwit Major in Wales,” said the description on the Dutch royals’ official Instagram account.
“She will spend the next two years at her International Baccalaureate school.
“Last school year, Princess Alexia finished her fourth year at the Christelijk Gymnasium in The Hague.”
Princess Elisabeth, the future Queen of Belgium, graduated from the same school as Leonor and Alexia in 2020.
Kurt Hahn, a German educator, created the UWC school in 1962.
Its royal graduates include King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and King Philippe of Belgium.
But, thanks to its present presidents, Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Noor of Jordan, it is also intimately associated with monarchy.
