Following a thrilling victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7 on Saturday night, the San Antonio Spurs will play the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals.
A Spurs team led by Victor Wembanyama defeated Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and company at home as they aimed for consecutive NBA titles.
After the Spurs won 111-103 to advance to the Western Conference Finals, the enormous Frenchman was overcome with emotion.
In a rematch of the 1999 NBA Finals, which the Spurs won 4-1 to begin a run of four titles in nine seasons, San Antonio now plays the Knicks.
MVP for the series was to Wembanyama, the 7-foot-4-inch sensation who was selected first overall in 2023.
“Realizing that some part of a childhood dream is going to come true… this feeling, I can’t explain it,” he remarked when asked what caused him to feel that way. It has a lot of power.

After the Spurs advanced to the NBA Finals, Victor Wembanyama was filled with emotion.
On Saturday, San Antonio won Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals 111-103.
In Game 7, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 35 points, but it was insufficient.
The Spurs will now return to San Antonio for Game 1 on Wednesday, marking their first trip to the NBA Finals since 2014.”Wembanyama went on, “It means everything, but we want four more.” It’s not finished.
Julian Champagnie made 18 of 20 3-pointers and Wembanyama scored 22 points as the Spurs defied all expectations to win a Game 7 away from home.
With 35 points and nine assists, Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder, but the NBA will have a new champion for the seventh straight year.
For the Thunder, Jared McCain and Alex Caruso each scored 12 points, while Cason Wallace scored 17.
The Thunder led Game 3 by 11, the Spurs led Game 4 by 18, the Thunder led Game 5 by 10, and the Spurs led Game 6 by 26 entering into the fourth quarter. All of those leads held up with relative ease, but this game was different.
The Spurs led by as many as 14 points in the first half and as many as 11 points in the third, but the Thunder rallied each times. It was an exciting game.
In the fourth, they withdrew once more, challenging the Thunder to attempt to lure them in once more. With Jalen Williams out due to a sore hamstring, the champions were short-handed and had nothing left.
Eight of San Antonio’s twelve encounters with the Thunder this season were victories, and ultimately, that was the only game that truly mattered.
