The Royal Navy has launched the crewless Banshee drone to combat aerial threats.

It takes off from an aircraft carrier and appears like a fighter jet. However, this is a drone known as the Banshee, and it may be useful in combating aerial threats.

It was launched from HMS Prince of Wales as part of the Royal Navy’s Project Vampire experimentation with crewless technology to be evaluated as a training tool.

At speeds of up to 460mph, the Banshee may soar to 25,000 feet or skim just above the sea. It’s also difficult to detect on radar, much like incoming missiles.

Warships might deploy the drones “to maintain people razor-sharp in combating threats from above,” according to Commander Rob Taylor.
