The incoming Democrat governor of Virginia hinted at a potential tax on streaming services and gym memberships

The new governor of Virginia has hinted that if the bills ever make it to her desk, she would sign a new tax on streaming services and gym memberships.

When asked about the so-called liberal wish list of taxing opportunities that Democrats are trying to implement in her state, Democrat Abigail Spanberger declined to provide a direct response.

Former intelligence officer Spanberger, who was elected governor of Virginia in January, has made it apparent that she is searching for unconventional methods to generate new sources of income.

The Virginia state government recently submitted new proposals that would extend taxes to encompass counselling, dry cleaning, auto maintenance, website creation, data storage, and digital subscription storage.

Bill HB978 also proposed a tax on retail sales of services, such as athletic club services and fitness memberships.

The contentious tax measures never made it to Spanberger’s desk since they were not approved by the General Assembly before the session ended on March 14, but that could change in the future.

The governor gave an ambiguous response when Tyler Englander of 8News asked what she would do if those measures were presented to her for signature.

“I think every idea should be entertained and discussed as long as it’s reasonable and makes some sense,” she stated.

When questioned about the so-called liberal wish list of taxing opportunities that Democrats are trying to implement in her state, Democrat Governor Abigail Spanberger declined to provide a direct response.

The proposal of taxing retail sales of services, such as fitness memberships and sports club services, has been proposed in the Virginia state house. “You mentioned the one on streaming services, you used to buy a DVD, there was a sales tax,” you said. The measure has not passed and has not yet made it to the governor’s desk. Streaming is not the same.

“I understand that these discussions are beneficial, but whether or not I would ever sign a bill depends entirely on what it contains and how it is presented.”

“As our economy changes in so many ways, I believe there are worthwhile conversations to be had about what revenue generation looks like into the future.”

Despite running as a moderate Democrat, Spanberger implemented far-left initiatives during her first week in office, garnering media attention.

In addition to decreasing collaboration with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, she signed an executive order that forbade discrimination in the workplace “to foster a culture of inclusion, diversity, and mutual respect for all Virginians.”

At the time, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon stated:She resembles a Bond villain.

It was also criticised as a liberal wish list that the state legislature intended to place on Spanberger’s desk.

They included eliminating Columbus Day, prohibiting gas-powered leaf blowers, increasing ranked-choice voting, imposing sales taxes on companies like Amazon and Uber Eats, and establishing multiple new tax brackets.

Despite running as a moderate Democrat, Spanberger implemented far-left initiatives during her first week in office, making headlines.

Last week, the governor of Virginia was beaming as she paraded about with King Charles. His forebears’ unrepresentative taxes by the British crown infuriated early American colonists.

In order to forward their optimistic agenda, which includes redrawing the state’s congressional district design ahead of this year’s midterm elections, Democrats in the state house previously pledged to collaborate with Spanberger.

With the exception of one that would raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour, Spanberger has not approved any additional state-based raises since January.

Despite this, Spanberger continues to face the wrath of President Trump.

“I can’t believe what this new Governor, Spanberger, has done to the Commonwealth — So sad,” he posted on Truth Social in April.A food and beverage tax, a tax on digital services, a tax on utilities, and many more taxes are being added by her.

It is no more strong, vibrant, or energetic. People who would never have considered leaving are doing so!Everything happened so quickly! This was once a prosperous and strong nation that everyone envied, but now it is a Commonwealth headed by someone who has no idea what low taxes and economic strength are.

According to Spanberger’s office, during the first several months of her administration, she has worked hard to reduce high expenses for Virginians and signed numerous bipartisan laws to lower the cost of energy, housing, and healthcare.

She announced on May 1 that she will invest $2.48 million in a capital fund to support the expansion of programs funding underprivileged communities around Virginia.

As Britain’s King Charles and Queen Camilla were on a whistle-stop visit of the East Coast last week, Spanberger attended celebrations in Front Royal, Virginia.

The governor of Virginia was beaming as she walked around with King Charles, whose forefathers are renowned for taxing early American colonies without providing them with representation, which served as a significant catalyst for the American Revolution.

A request for comment has been made to Spanberger’s office.
