According to Priti Patel, the EU’s open borders are to blame for Britain’s “mass migration crisis.”
PRITI Patel has admitted that the United Kingdom is facing a “mass migration crisis,” blaming the EU’s open borders for the problem.
In addition, the Home Secretary chastised the European Commission for failing to stem the flow of migrants across Europe and towards Calais.
She told The Sun, while on an official visit to Washington, DC, that France has been “overwhelmed” by the number of migrants who have crossed the EU’s open-bordered Schengen zone unchecked.
There are no immigration checks in the area, allowing free movement.
“Let’s not forget the real problem: the EU has no border protections at all,” Ms Patel said.
“This is a matter of EU competence.”
“It’s fair to say France is overwhelmed,” she continued.
“On its own, France will not be able to do it.”
Other nations must do more.”
“No one, including British taxpayers, is more enraged and frustrated about this than myself.”
“It’s pointless to say that you could just push the boats back; it won’t stop it.”
