The AA supports the Daily Express’s proposal for the VAT on electric car sales to be abolished.
THE AA yesterday endorsed the Daily Express’s “go green” campaign.
To encourage the use of expensive electric vehicles, the motoring organization has proposed eliminating VAT on their sales. It claimed that two-thirds of the almost 15,000 members polled approved of the tax cut.
“Many drivers still feel priced out of the electric car market,” said AA president Edmund King.
Drivers also want more fast charging stations and a scrappage program for gasoline and diesel vehicles.
Green Britain Needs You, a campaign run by the Express, has asked for zero VAT on products that emit little or no greenhouse gases.
New electric automobiles are subject to a 20% VAT, the same as polluting gasoline and diesel vehicles.
After 2030, the sale of new gasoline and diesel cars will be prohibited.
