The A12 is currently stopped in both directions due to a lorry fire, which has engulfed the route in smoke.
Following an incident on the dual carriageway, massive delays are predicted on the A12, with lanes stopped in both directions.
On Monday afternoon, a lorry caught fire, causing both lanes to close. On junction 17 (Howe Green/A130) and junction 16 (Galleywood/B1007), there is a fire. At 3.15 p.m., the fire was reported.
Long delays are expected, according to motorists.
On the London bound carriageway, a fire was reported.
It’s unclear whether anyone was injured as a result of the incident.
According to Essex Travel News: “Due to a lorry fire on the Londonbound carriageway, the A12 is closed in both directions between J17 (Howe Green/A130) and J16 (Galleywood/B1007).
“Due to smoke drifting over the highway, northbound traffic is being held.
“Both directions have substantial delays.”
From junction 17 to A130 (Howe Green) to junction 16 B1007 Stock Road, the A12 heading towards London is still closed (Galleywood).
Congestion has also been reported on the Londonbound side at junctions 15 and 18.
On the Baddow Bypass, Baddow Road (B1009), Van Diemans Road (A1114), and Chelmer Road (A138) in Chelmsford, traffic is flowing slowly approaching the Army & Navy roundabout.
Junction 18, which leads to London, is also predicted to be congested.
The northbound lanes have reopened.
Onlookers, on the other hand, cause delays.
Essex Travel News has added the following: “A fire on a single-vehicle transporter van (containing a car) and gasoline leak have closed the road near J16 (Galleywood/B1007).
“J18 (Sandon/A414) is experiencing long delays.
“Due to bystanders, northbound traffic is sluggish around J16.”
On the A12 earlier today, police were alerted to a lorry blowout.
The incident caused the northbound carriageway in Witham to be closed between junctions 21 and 22.
On Monday morning, police officers were dispatched to the A12, A2, A3, and A40 owing to climate change protests.
The police arrested a total of 38 persons.
