According to Daily Mail, Catherine Zeta-Jones and her husband Michael Douglas are “so proud” as their daughter Carys gets ready for her theatrical debut.

When the production of Anton Chekhov’s iconic play The Seagull opens in New York next month, the 23-year-old will be in the lead role.

Saoirse Ronan, Emilia Clarke, Carey Mulligan, Natalie Portman, and a young Dame Helen Mirren have all played the character of Nina, a fame-hungry aspiring actress who becomes caught up in a love triangle.

Carys’ pal told the Daily Mail that her parents, Michael, 81, and Catherine, 56, are “so proud” of her most recent accomplishment.

The Welsh actress has also publicly shown her support by liking an Instagram poster for the play, which will run for just one week at Brooklyn’s St. Lydia’s Theatre.

The production firm Solid Flesh, a theater group started by Carys’ pal Kieran Gettel-Gilmartin, who starred in the 2022 Netflix comedy Metal Lords, made the casting announcement.

According to Daily Mail, Catherine Zeta-Jones and her husband Michael Douglas are “so proud” of their daughter Carys as she gets ready to make her theatrical debut.

When the production of Anton Chekhov’s beloved play The Seagull premieres in New York next month, the 23-year-old will play the lead role. Our Irina Arkadina, Nina, and Konstantin will complete the amazing cast of The Seagull! The co-producers sent a message on Instagram.

“I grew up doing theater, and I didn’t study acting in school, so that’s why I’m happy to be in such an informative arts space,” Carys told People magazine last year. Carys, who graduated from Brown University last year with a degree in film and international relations, will star alongside fellow Brown graduates Sarah Yannic and Kieran.

Michael and I would be the first parents to say, “You know, maybe you should think of another career,” but we’ve seen how passionate they are about the craft, Catherine, who also has a 25-year-old son named Dylan with her husband, acknowledged in 2021.

“They know what celebritydom is,” she went on. They are aware of the warts, the good, and the terrible. However, they are passionate about acting as a craft, and they have participated in every theater camp. My children attended summer camp and theater camp with the Broadway kids each year, and I must say, they held their own very, very well.

Carys also announced earlier this month that she was producing a new play at “one of Off-Broadway’s leading theater houses,” posting an invitation to submit a script on social media.

Rehearsals for the independent production start the next month and are set for mid-July.

Before making the switch to film, both of Carys’ Oscar-winning parents had a distinguished career on theater.

At the age of nine, Catherine was cast as one of the orphan girls in the original West End production of Annie. In her early teens, she won a national tap dance competition.

For her performance in the movie Chicago in 2003, Catherine received an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. In 2009, she earned a Tony Award for her Broadway debut in A Little Night Music.

Michael began his acting career at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in the 1960s and studied at The American Place Theatre in New York City.

One of Chekhov’s most well-known pieces, The Seagull, was written in 1895 and narrates the tale of a group of artists and their sexual entanglements in a Russian rural home.

In 1988, Catherine appeared on stage alongside co-star Graeme Henderson in the West End musical 42nd Street.

Her brother Dylan, who graduated from Brown in 2022, is the host of Young American with Dylan Douglas, a weekly Gen Z political radio show. He debuted in the psychological thriller I Will Come to You.

Nina, played by Cary, is a young woman who is eager to leave her small-town existence and pursue a career in acting. Tragic outcomes result from her romantic involvement with both established novelist Trigorin and fledgling writer Konstantin.

The 2024 short films Shell and F**k That Guy, the latter of which debuted at the Champs-Élysées Film Festival in Paris in June, have already earned the promising stage star acting honors.

During her time at Brown, she worked as an intern at Rolling Stone magazine, where she contributed five published pieces about music and movies, and at Ark Media, a production business, where she helped with a documentary about Hollywood actress Tatum O’Neal.

Additionally, she spent a year studying abroad at King’s College London, where she concentrated on international relations and affairs.
