After her ex-husband allegedly shot her in their apartment, a cherished mother of two from Louisiana died in what appeared to be a murder-suicide.
According to authorities, Meridian Thomas Woodson, 28, was slain on May 28 in Elmwood, New Orleans, when her ex-husband Kody Woodson, 30, started shooting before turning the gun on himself.
Kody was discovered in his car in a nearby parking lot with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies.
After being taken to the hospital after surviving the original shooting, the spouse passed away the next day.
Authorities did not provide information about what preceded the horrific shooting, despite reports that the couple was going through a divorce at the time.
As a loving mother of two small girls, Meridian received an abundance of tributes.
In a GoFundMe page for her daughters, ages four and seven, Meridian’s friend Rita Rando said, “Meridian was a light in everyone’s life.”
Everyone Meridian encountered was moved by her generosity, compassion, and unshakable faith in God.She consistently provided love, support, and encouragement to her family and people around her.

The tragedy was found after deputies were called to the couple’s residence to look into a “disturbance,” according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office stated that deputies “searched the surrounding area, they located the suspect vehicle in the parking lot of a nearby business” after Meridian’s body was discovered inside the apartment.
“The man inside had what looked to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
The couple allegedly had a tumultuous relationship, involving accusations of domestic violence and custody disputes over their two young girls, according to court records quoted by local affiliate WDSU.
According to the reported records, both parents accused one another of abuse and asked the courts to order the other to attend classes for domestic violence intervention.
