Temperatures to PLUMMET as rainstorms prepare to smash Britain

THE UK will be hit by plummeting temperatures in some parts before showers batter the nation.

“Those temperatures are falling away because we’re picking up more of a cool easterly breeze”

While Brits may wake up this morning to glorious sunshine, many will find the conditions quite chilly when they leave their homes for work.

Many parts of the UK’s eastern coastline will barely make it into the double digits, with most areas from Scotland down to East Anglia being predicted to reach a maximum of 12C.

Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern said this was due to winds coming in from the North Sea.

He added: “More cloud to build on Thursday and a few showers for Western Scotland western parts of Northern Ireland.

“Those temperatures are falling away because we’re picking up more of a cool easterly breeze and that will be evident on those North Sea coasts in particular.

“Low pressure from the continent to influence our weather more.”

Many inland counties will experience highs of up to 15C, which include major cities such as Manchester Birmingham, Glasgow and London.

But, heading into Friday, rain will pelt the county as showers move their way west.

Mr McGivern continued: “On Friday we’ll see an initial spell of rain pushing its way west across parts of England and Wales followed by showers and a lot of cloud cover.

“Compared to recent days it’s going to be much more cloud in the sky across England, Wales and southeastern Scotland.

“Temperatures are on their way down and certainly on that North Sea coast it will feel chilly with the wind coming in from the east.

“A lot of cloud cover so the weather ever so slowly over the next few days but still some warm and bright weather around.”
