Sydney woman charged over baby’s death

A Sydney woman has been charged following extensive inquiries into the death of a seven week old baby two years ago.

Emergency services were called to a home in Annandale in February 2018 after the baby was reported to be unresponsive

Ambulance paramedics treated the baby boy but he died at the scene.

Leichhardt detectives established a strike force to investigate the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death after a post-mortem examination identified the presence of methylamphetamine and amphetamine.

They arrested a 40-year-old woman at a correctional facility in Silverwater on Thursday.

She was charged with using poison so as to endanger life and was refused bail to appear in Newtown Local Court on Friday.
