Luis Enrique’s men got their League A Group 4 campaign off to a great start by beating England 2-1 away on Saturday night.

The Spanish fell behind to a Marcus Rashford goal early on, but Saul Niguez grabbed an equaliser fairly quickly and Rodrigo Moreno went on to hit the winner.

With only four games to play in the group, an away victory is crucial and puts Enrique’s side in pole position to go all the way and qualify for next summer’s Nations League finals tournament.

But Croatia will fancy their chances of beating Spain at Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero in Elche, in their first competitive game since they lost 4-2 to France in the World Cup final.

“Luis Enrique has dropped Koke and Jordi Alba from his first Spain squad”

Enrique is likely to go with a very similar team to the one that beat England at Wembley, with no injuries picked up during the game.

The former Barcelona boss fielded a very different side to the one that flopped during the World Cup, having dropped Koke and Jordi Alba, while losing David Silva, Gerard Pique and Andres Iniesta to retirement.

Diego Costa was also absent – and remains away from the squad – as he stayed home with his partner who gave birth to a daughter yesterday.

In his place, Enrique started Iago Aspas, while Valencia’s Rodrigo Moreno played out wide.

Moreno scored the winner and generally impressed more against England, so we think he may lead the line this time, with Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio – a sub on Saturday – getting the nod to start.

In midfield, Sergi Roberto and Dani Ceballos provide competition but Sergio Busquets, Thiago Alcantara and Saul Niguez all impressed at Wembley.

The back four also looked settled – although Inigo Martinez and Raul Albiol are alternatives to Nacho alongside Sergio Ramos.
