Six fire engines are dispatched to a massive incident at a London Tube station, causing panic.

A FIRE has broken out at Westminster Station in London, causing panic among commuters as half-a-dozen fire engines rush to the scene.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) wrote on Twitter: “Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters are at the scene of a fire at Westminster Station on Bridge Street in Westminster. More information to follow.” The station has been evacuated and a cordon put in place.

The LFB soon offered a further update, stating they have been called to “smoke issuing from an electrical room at Westminster Station”.

Around 100 people had evacuated the station before firefighters arrived.

The LFB wrote said on its website: “Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters have been called to smoke issuing from an electrical room at Westminster Station on Bridge Street in Westminster.

“Firefighters are currently at the scene and investigating a large amount of smoke coming from an electrical room within the basement of the station.

“Around 100 people left the station before the Brigade arrived.

“The Brigade was called at 1129.

“Fire crews from Lambeth, Euston, Old Kent Road and Soho fire stations are at the scene.

“The cause of the smoke will be investigated.”

The LFB later wrote on Twitter: “The incident at Westminster Station is now under control.”

Westminster station is served by the Circle, District and Jubilee lines.

Trains are currently not stopping at the station.

Transport for London (TfL) has said on its website: “Westminster: Closed while we deal with a fire alert.

 

“London Buses accepting tickets.”

Several people have taken to Twitter to describe the emergency at the popular London Underground station.

Twitter user @AKAMaryPalmer wrote: “Westminster station now. Evacuated. Putting a cordon on Canon Row.

“Police and fire engines outside station and Portcullis House.”

@MartinRose2 commented: “6 fire engines and around 40 fire officers are currently dealing with a fire at Westminster Tube Station.

“It’s been evaluated and no trains are stopping there.”
