Stylists and influencers are raving about a $20 cropped cardigan from Kmart hailed as the ‘perfect’ accessory for the short Australian winter.
Shoppers have stripped the website of the trendy and comfortable ‘Crop-Button Cardigan’ in sizes six through 12, but it’s still available online in 14-16 and 18-20.
Fashionistas have been showcasing its versatility on Instagram over the past week, layering the cardigan over Zara’s best-selling $29.95 bodysuit for a chic evening look and flowing midi-dresses for a casual daytime ensemble.
Melbourne mum-to-be Jess Dakota said she is ‘still obsessing’ about the affordable knit that’s ‘so easy to style and wear’ over her blossoming baby bump.
Canberra style blogger ‘This is Genevieve’ paired the cardigan with white high-waisted jeans and said she bought a size bigger than normal for a loose, over-sized fit.
‘The material looks great. Might have to go searching for it,’ one follower replied.
Another said: ‘You make this look so good!’
Sydney influencer Angel Perez, who posts under the handle ‘Styling Mum and Bub’, built three looks around the cardigan, styling the first with espadrilles and dark wash jeans and the second with a slinky silk maxi-dress and point-toe heels.
For the third, she turned the material inside-out to hide the buttons and wore it over a grey pleated midi-skirt and beige ankle boots.
Followers said Ms Perez had ‘styled it perfectly’ and praised her keen eye for fashion.
‘I love all these looks. Your creativity is at another level. And how lovely you look!’ said one.
The bargain buy is similar to a $40 cardigan from Glassons that sold out nationwide in May after it was worn by Married At First Sight star, Martha Kalifatidis.
The shopping frenzy started after the 31-year-old makeup artist used the ‘Chunky Knit’ to cover her modesty in two otherwise nude mirror selfies, one captured in the bathroom and one in the bedroom of the Bondi, Sydney, apartment she shares with boyfriend Michael Brunelli, late on Friday.
Martha showcased the style to perfection, giving fashionistas a full view of the over-sized sleeves and ribbed material which plunges into a deep V before closing down the front with chunky brown buttons.
Practical yet stylish, the cardigan can be dressed up or down by wearing it over a silk slip midi-dress and boots, or tucked into a casual pair of jeans or tracksuit bottoms with sneakers.
The cardigan became Glassons’ ‘fastest selling online item’ this year after flying off shelves in just 24 hours, a spokesperson for the brand told news.com.au.
