Cincinnati Reds infielder Matt Davidson tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday after playing in the season opener on Friday.
Davidson went 0-for-2 as the designated hitter in Friday’s 7-1 win over the Detroit Tigers before being pulled, becoming the first known player to have played with the coronavirus. He was tested Friday before the game.
Davidson was placed on the IL on Saturday.
The Reds also placed catcher Tucker Barnhart on the paternity list. The Reds called up outfielder Aristides Aquino and right-hander Tejay Antone.
The Reds signed Davidson to a minor league deal earlier this year. He also played for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago White Sox.
