Rachel Riley reveals shocking Twitter abuse: ‘I’ve been called brainwashed and thick’

RACHEL Riley found herself embroiled in controversy on social media.

Countdown stunner Rachel Riley, who once said she was a “non-religious Jew”, revealed she has received online abuse after criticising Jeremy Corbyn over the ongoing anti-Semitism row.

The 32-year-old said she had been called a “Tory, brainwashed and thick” after disapproving of the Labour leader, whose party has been accused of racism.

On Tuesday, she took to Twitter to share two images which prompted the backlash.

The first photo showed London mayor Sadiq Khan wishing Jews a happy Rosh Hashanah.

In the second, Mr Corbyn praises an activist who called for Israeli MPs to be assassinated.

Underneath the pictures, she wrote: “Another game of spot the difference between Labour leaders… @MayorofLondon vs Jeremy Corbyn.”

The Oxford University Maths graduate then shared further articles discussing alleged anti-Semitism in the Labour party.

Shortly after posting the images, the former Strictly Come Dancing star shared another tweet saying she had been the victim of abuse.

She wrote: “Much as I appreciate being called Tory, brainwashed and thick, I don’t have any party loyalties, I form my opinions based on available evidence.

“Religion wise, I choose Man United. Life wise I choose the options without intolerance, hatred and fear. #AntiSemitism.”

Mr Corbyn has denied allegations of anti-Semitism and spoke of his “pain” at being called a racist and compared to Enoch Powell during the anti-Semitism row that has sent the Labour party into mayhem in recent weeks.

Rachel – who is dating her former Strictly dance partner, Pasha Kovalev – is more used to sparking controversy over her racy on-screen outfits as opposed to getting embroiled in politics.

The stunning TV personality can regularly be spotted flashing her hourglass curves in an array of skimpy outfits on Countdown and its comedy spinoff, 8 Out Of 10 Cats does Countdown.

She joined the former in 2009, taking over from veteran show host Carol Vorderman.
