A prison officer will have to undergo blood tests after a prisoner lunged and bit him at a correctional facility in far north Queensland.
Officers at Lotus Glen Correctional Centre in Arriga were unlocking a safety unit on Sunday morning when the prisoner lunged at them, biting one officer on the hand.
The male officer was treated at the scene and will undergo tests for blood-borne diseases.
The inmate then reopened an injury from a recent self-harm incident and is being treated at the prison health centre, Queensland Corrective Services said in a statement.
