‘Push back on the lies!’ Biden will accuse Trump of being responsible for the ‘chaos and carnage’ of the Capitol riots.

To mark the poignant one-year anniversary of the violent protests in the country’s capital, Joe Biden is set to deliver a scathing speech blaming former US President Donald Trump for the “chaos and carnage” of January 6.

The 46th US President, 79, will take direct aim at his predecessor, 75, on the anniversary of the Capitol Hill riots, according to White House press secretary Jen Psaki, 43.

Following the results announcing Trump’s defeat in the 2020 presidential election, thousands of Trump supporters attacked the Capitol in Washington, DC on January 6, 2021.

Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in an unsuccessful attempt to stop the Electoral College votes from being counted, resulting in five deaths and at least five hospitalizations.

“President Biden has been clear-eyed about the threat the former president poses to our democracy, and how the former president continually works to undermine basic American values and the rule of law,” Ms Psaki said.

“Of course, President Biden has talked about how the former president abused his office, undermined the constitution, and disregarded his oath to the American people in order to gain more power for himself and his allies.”

“I see January 6 as the tragic culmination of what those four years under President Trump did to our country,” Biden said, “and they reflected the president’s importance of winning… the battle for our nation’s soul.”

“I would expect President Biden to lay out the significance of what happened at the Capitol, as well as President Trump’s sole responsibility for the chaos and carnage that we witnessed,” Ms Psaki continued.

“And he will retaliate forcefully against the former president’s lies, which he spread in an attempt to deceive the American people and his own supporters.”

The former President canceled a press conference scheduled for January 6 at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Tuesday.

Instead, Mr. Trump stated that he would speak about many of the intended topics at a rally in Arizona on January 15th.

The reason for Mr Trump’s cancellation of the news conference was unclear, but he blamed the “bias and dishonesty” of the House of Representatives’ investigation into the Capitol Hill riots, as well as the news media, in a statement.

On the day of, four people died.
