Priti Patel issues a public warning about the risks of espionage on national security.
Foreign state espionage is becoming a greater issue, according to PRITI Patel.
The Home Secretary stated in an address in Washington that governments are increasingly eavesdropping on “universities and corporations.” She warned that “malign intervention” is one of the UK’s “most serious security risks.”
According to reports, China is now targeting colleges, infrastructure, and technological industries in the United Kingdom.
Ms. Patel expressed her thoughts as follows: “The art of espionage is changing. Governments continue to spy on one another, but the scope of the spying has expanded significantly, even into our colleges and businesses.
“Countries attempting to influence one another is not intrinsically wrong. After all, it is why I am here. However, we must never let national security be jeopardized.” On the final day of a tour to Washington, DC to increase security cooperation with the US, Ms Patel spoke to The Heritage Foundation think tank.
The Home Secretary stated that surveillance rules are being updated to address the evolving risks, which he described as “uninhibited and expanding.”
Strong ties with the United States are “very important” for both countries’ protection against hostile action.
Ms. Patel went on to say: “We in the United Kingdom will no longer tolerate such blatant attacks or the blatant way in which our national security has been jeopardized.
“Our pending legislation will be the most significant anti-state-threat legislation in decades.”
