PRINCESS Beatrice wanted her father to meet his first baby granddaughter before revealing her name to the public, a royal commentator has claimed.
Prince Andrew has finally met his baby granddaughter, after travelling down from Balmoral Castle to Royal Lodge in Windsor last week. His eldest daughter, Princess Beatrice, reportedly delayed “announcing to the world” her newborn’s name, in order for the prince to have the opportunity to meet the tiny tot. Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi welcomed baby Sienna Elizabeth on September 18.
Speaking on ITV Royal Rota’s podcast, royal commentator Lizzie Robinson said: “What was quite interesting on the timing of that is that we hadn’t had a royal baby name his daughter Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
“Prince Andrew left Balmoral, he arrived back in Windsor and it wasn’t long afterwards that we received the name so I think it must have been connected, that she wanted to introduce the baby to him before announcing it to the world which you can quite understand.”
Prince Andrew had remained at Balmoral with the Queen after Princess Beatrice gave birth to her first child.
Her mother, Sarah Ferguson, had travelled immediately back to London to be with her daughter during labour, and to help the couple settle into their apartment at St James’s Palace.
Buckingham Palace released a statement that read: “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter on Saturday 18th September 2021, at 23.42, at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London. The baby weighs 6 pounds and 2 ounces.”
“The new baby’s grandparents and great-grandparents have all been informed and are delighted with the news. The family would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for their wonderful care.
On October 1, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi shared a sweet photograph on Instagram, revealing the name of their two-week-old baby daughter.
Named Sienna Elizabeth, the couple have decided to pay tribute to her Italian roots, with her choice of middle name also honouring the Queen.
Princess Beatrice had married the property tycoon in July 2020 in a private ceremony at Windsor’s Royal Lodge.
Their daughter Sienna joins Edoardo’s four-year-old son Christopher Woolf from his previous relationship with architect Dara Huang.
