Following their conversation about darts at Windsor Castle, the darts sensation himself invited the Prince of Wales to watch Luke Littler make his Alexandra Palace debut.
When Prince William, 43, informed Littler last Tuesday that the World Championship at the vibrant north London venue “looks like a good night out,” Littler accepted the MBE given for his commitment to the sport.
The Warrington resident, 19, acknowledged that going to the royal home was a strange experience.
“We were just talking about how darts has blown up, and Prince William said he’s been following the journey,” Littler remarked. “He even said it looks like a good night out, so maybe we’ll see Prince William at Ally Pally this year.”
“If he needs a few tickets, I’m sure myself or the PDC will sort some,” the athlete went on. “When I arrived at Windsor Castle, it was just like…” “How am I here?” What brings me here?” The experience was bizarre. You simply need to consider what I’ve done for the sport. “Obviously, they don’t usually come to people so young, but for what I’ve done for my sport, it’s been incredible and the notice has been fantastic.”
Luke Littler was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire at Windsor Castle earlier this month, and the Prince of Wales spoke with him (shown). The athlete has since invited him to his debut at Alexandra Palace.
The world number one, known as “The Nuke,” has been jeered in Liverpool, Brighton, Sheffield, and at European events in addition to being jeered at Alexandra Palace in December.
Luke Humphries, his closest competition, thinks that the hostility stems from the fact that “everyone wants to knock someone down that’s doing well.” Littler is prepared to respond if this occurs once more.Littler stated, “The only way to handle it is to put your head down and win, and that’s what I’ve done.”
Humphries and Littler have faced off in the last two Premier League championships; last year, “Cool Hand” defeated the world number one.
It is anticipated that the rivals will face off once more, and Littler would be content to negotiate with Gerwyn Price, his opponent in the semifinals, and make it to the competition’s championship for the third year in a row.
“We’ve shared most majors over the past year or two, but let’s see what happens Thursday.” “I’ll be happy if I can make it three finals in a row, but I’ll just try and beat Gezzy first,” he said. “Some people want to see me against Luke in the final, some might say it’s a bit boring now, Luke and Luke.”
The future king is a devoted fan of Littler’s sport, but he is not as successful at the darts board.
In a 2024 Kensington Palace video, William attempted his finest shot during a game against actress Hannah Waddingham, but it completely missed the board. The Prince joked, “Cut!” while Waddingham asked the cameras, “Can we get a close-up on this?”
Filming for the nine-minute sketch took place at North London’s famed Alexandra Palace.
