According to a probable cause statement acquired by the Daily Mail, a Women’s World Cup football player allegedly visited a 14-year-old’s home multiple times a week to rape the teenager and encouraged him to send sexually graphic photographs when they were separated.
The 20-year-old Oteta Kristina Kitiona is charged with frequently sexually abusing the kid in Utah during a six-month period in 2024, when she was 19 and the victim was five years younger.
According to the probable cause statement prepared by a Bluffdale Police Department detective and submitted on Tuesday, the kid claimed that Kitiona would visit his home “two to three times a week” to sexually abuse him.
This occurred from June until October 2024, when Kitiona departed Utah to attend Bellevue College in Washington, according to the accused victim, who is only referenced in court records as “DL” and whom the Daily Mail is not naming.
However, the probable cause statement claims that once she returned to Salt Lake City in November, Kitiona would once more “come to his house three times a week and they would have sex.”
The accused victim was under Utah’s 18-year-old consenting age, was still wearing braces at the time of the alleged acts, and was described as being a small 5’9″ and weighing only 135 pounds.
Meanwhile, the 150-pound Kitiona participated in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification campaign with the Samoan national women’s football team.
The allegations were brought following her first three games, beginning on February 27, when she was removed off the field in the 66th minute of Samoa’s 8-0 loss against New Zealand.
On March 2, she participated in 62 minutes of a 1-0 defeat to American Samoa. According to FIFA, Kitiona finally entered the game in the 68th minute as Samoa defeated the Solomon Islands 2-1 at the National Stadium.
On May 5, precisely two months after Samoa’s unsuccessful World Cup bid, the allegations against Kitiona were brought before the Third District Court in the County of Salt Lake City.
When Oteta Kristina Kitiona was 19 years old, officials accused her of frequently “engaging in sexual activties” with a 14-year-old juvenile.
As recently as March, Kitiona played for the Samoan national women’s football team during their 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign.
Kitiona, who is currently 20 years old, is accused of three counts of unlawful sexual behaviour with a minor while under the age of 21, as well as transmitting material detrimental to a minor, a third-degree crime.
She is charged with three counts of unlawful sexual behaviour with a minor while under the age of twenty-one, as well as distribution of material detrimental to a minor, a third-degree crime.
Two of the latter counts are class A misdemeanours, and one is likewise a third-degree felony.
The dates of all the alleged crimes were recorded as June 24, 2024.
In May or June of that year, according to the minor, he and Kitiona “entered into a relationship.”
According to the probable cause statement, he said that Kitiona would email him naked pictures in which “everything” was visible.
According to the probable cause statement, Kitiona was “head to toe clean, naked in both pictures and videos,” according to DL, who also stated that the photos depicted her in a variety of sexually explicit situations.
While DL was in the shower, Kitiona allegedly urged him to email pictures back, which he admitted to police.
On May 5, precisely two months after Samoa’s unsuccessful bid for the Women’s World Cup, Kitiona was charged.
The probable cause statement claims that Kitiona and the minor “entered into a relationship” in May or June 2024, which by the end of the latter month had become sexual.
The kid reported Kitiona’s alleged sexual abuse, according to a Bluffdale Police Department detective’s probable cause statement (Image of Bluffdale, UT).
A pretrial no-contact order was also suggested on the same day that Kitiona’s case declaration of probable cause was filed.
The minor could not be “harassed, telephoned, contacted, or otherwise communicated directly or indirectly” by Kitiona.
This would cover both digital and face-to-face contact.
She would also be told not to go to the boy’s house or school.
According to court documents, Kitiona was not placed under arrest.
She was summoned to the Third District Court of Salt Lake City to appear before a magistrate.
According to a court document, she is currently scheduled to appear at the courts on June 6 at 8.30 a.m.
According to court filings, Kitiona’s alleged crimes occurred on June 24, 2024.
According to court documents, Kitiona allegedly sent the small pictures in which she was “head to toe clean, naked in both pictures and videos.”
A date and time for Kitiona’s appearance before a magistrate in Salt Lake City’s Third District Court (pictured) have not yet been disclosed.
The legal age of consent in Utah is eighteen.
However, when the minor is between 14 and 16 years old and the accused is under 21, as Kitiona is, state law often reduces the severity of the offence.
“The defendant was less than four years older than the minor at the time the sexual activity occurred,” according to Kitiona’s claims.
Kitiona and Salt Lake County DA Sim Gill’s office have been contacted by The Daily Mail for comment.
Kitiona’s relatives did not respond to a request for comment.
According to Salt Lake County District Court documents, Kitiona did not have an attorney listed.
