Pfizer’s vaccine will be manufactured in the United Kingdom in millions of doses.
Last night, it was revealed that millions of doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine will be manufactured in the United Kingdom for use around the world.
Doses will be bottled in Swindon before being shipped to Pfizer’s storage in Puurs, Belgium, and then around the world, according to a contract between the company and Thermo Fisher Scientific.
From early next year, Thermo Fisher will apparently take over “fill-finish” responsibilities — the process of filling and packaging vials.
It will become part of a network of facilities that aims to produce four billion doses by 2022.
“I’m happy that Pfizer will produce vaccines in the UK, bringing hundreds of jobs and helping to give vaccines to millions of people around the world,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted.
The vaccination was the first to be rolled out in the UK, according to BioNTech.
