Pedestrian dead after being struck by a car in Phoenix

A 79-year-old woman has died after she was struck by a car while in an unmarked crosswalk Wednesday night, Phoenix police said Thursday.

Gertrud Sieverd was crossing 7th Avenue at Palm Lane when she was struck by a 2009 Mercedes C300 Sedan traveling northbound on 7th Avenue, according to a Phoenix Police Department news release.

Sieverd was transported to the hospital and later pronounced dead, according to police.

The 36-year-old male driver stayed at the scene where officers evaluated him, according to police.

Impairment does not seem to be a factor in the collision, the news release stated.

The Phoenix Police Department has not identified the driver, but officials said there are charges pending.
