A $39 serum that promises to give users ‘glass skin’ boasts a 25,000-strong waiting list of women who can’t wait to get their hands on the bottle.
Peach and Lily’s Glass Skin Refining Serum boasts over 1,000 five-star reviews and has sold out 12 times since it launched – with many saying it’s the ‘best beauty buy’ they have ever made.
The serum includes a number of so-called ‘superskin ingredients’ including peach extract, niacinimide, east Asian mountain yam extra and hyaluronic acid.
‘Glass skin’ is a term that has become increasingly popular in the skincare world in the past few years, and it describes exceptionally smooth, even-toned and lustrous skin that is so flawless it has the appearance of glass.
It also includes a blend of peptides, which are included to ‘signal collagen production to help fill in the fine lines and deeply etched wrinkles and firm the skin’.
Before-and-after pictures shared online show just how effective the serum is at smoothing out the skin, ridding it of acne and providing hydration.
After 30 days of consistent use in both the morning and the evening, one user, Puja, said she has noticed an ‘all-round improvement’.
‘My sister, who hasn’t seen me in four months, asked what I am doing differently for my skin because it looks a lot better,’ Puja wrote.
‘Blemishes are lighter. Skin is much more glowy.’
Another fan, Eve, said ‘this keeps my skin hydrated more than ever before and I think it’s probably the best serum I’ve ever used’.
Meanwhile, the product has thousands of five star reviews on the website.
The founder of Peach and Lily Alicia Alicia Yoon said you should use the serum in the morning and evening, and apply after cleansing, toning and before moisturiser.
‘This kind of glass skin is best achieved when your skin is calm, without inflammation, hydrated, plumped up and well-nourished,’ she explained.
‘Those are lofty skin goals… but we set on the challenge to come up with one product that would truly help to achieve glass skin.’
The skin expert added: ‘We tested over 200 formulas, including conducting face tests on over 40 cosmetic chemists in our partner lab), but the chemists knew that we needed to see results – and undeniable results.
‘So they kept testing and testing to see if it would be possible to truly create a product worthy of its name: Glass Skin Refining Serum.’
The serum is easy to use, insofar as it sinks in quickly, leaving behind just ‘radiant, dewy, glassy skin’.
It is suitable for all skin types and is also fragrance-free.
Many have described it as a ‘super juice’ for the skin, but some say it doesn’t work for everyone.
‘Unfortunately I broke out the first time I used this serum. It did give a beautiful glow prior to waking up with acne,’ one reviewer wrote.
‘I’ve used this twice a day for weeks and am yet to see a difference,’ another added.
Speaking previously about her own skincare regime, the Peach and Lily founder Alicia Yoon said that she had ‘little toddler facials’ from as young as three years old, and that, in Korea, protecting your skin from wrinkles starts from as young as eleven:
‘In Korea, at age 11, anti-aging is already a thing,’ she told Byrdie.
‘You’re already going with your mum to your family facialist every week or two.’
Alicia said that in Korea, there are all sorts of skin specialists that people visit for their skin concerns, from luxury spas to ‘maintenance clinics’ – which, according to the beauty expert – is something that people treat like a gym membership insofar as they go so regularly.
She also said that there is such a thing as a family facialist, who looks after the entire family’s skin.
Alicia, who is currently in her 30s, continues to look after her skin with a cocktail of masks, vitamins, rich ingredients and regular facials.
