PAUL POGBA and Jose Mourinho appear to be at war at Manchester United, and the midfielder did nothing to reduce speculation when he was substituted.
United were embarrassed yet again at the London Stadium, losing 3-1 to West Ham – who had only won one previous match in the Premier League this season.
When Mourinho substituted Pogba and Anthony Martial for Fred and Juan Mata on the 70-minute mark, the manager patted the Frenchman as he walked by.
But Pogba appeared to completely ignore his boss as he trudged towards the bench.
While it’s fair to say nothing would be made of that if it was another player, there clearly is tension between the duo.
Pogba appeared to criticise Mourinho’s tactics after last week’s 1-1 draw with Wolves when he said United should attack more in home matches.
Mourinho then stripped him of the vice-captaincy on Tuesday, ahead of the club’s embarrassing Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Derby.
The rift then erupted the following day, when Sky Sports footage from United’s training session showed an altercation between the duo.
Mourinho was questioning Pogba’s Instagram story video which went online after the defeat and show the midfielder and Andreas Pereira joking around in the stands while United were winning 1-0 during the first half.
Pogba apparently had tried to upload it during the first half but due to the unreliable internet connection at Old Trafford it did not appear until the game had finished and the Red Devils had been dumped out.
The World Cup winner was poor in the defeat to West Ham, and it remains to be seen whether he will start against Valencia in the Champions League on Tuesday.
