In an emotional social media post, Pat McAfee, who recently became a father for the second time, disclosed that his newborn son, Midas Robert, was placed in critical care following an emergency C-section.
Due to Samantha’s high-risk pregnancy and severe preeclampsia, the decision was made to have an emergency C-Section on Friday night. McAfee said his son, who was born four weeks early, spent about 36 hours in the NICU to help his breathing and develop his lungs before doctors eventually returned the newborn to him and his wife. On May 22, at 10:42 p.m., the baby boy was born as a 6-pound, 6-ounce, screaming young legend. In a statement, McAfee said, “Literally in his first moments of life, Midas was working… He was able to get his O2 Levels high enough to be able to come hang with us in our room and as a result we got to do all the immediate magical newborn moments.” He was born at 36 weeks (40 is full term), so it was inevitable that he would need to grow his lungs a bit more, get some fluid out of him, and get used to life outside of Sam’s stomach. Skin to skin, 10,000 kisses, plenty of love, all of that. In order to facilitate his transfer from the womb to the outside world, he was sent to the NICU.
Midas Robert, Pat McAfee’s newborn son, spent 36 hours in critical care. “We had a sneaky suspicion that he was a dawg and a fighter, but it is a bit scary to see your baby hooked up to so many “very serious” things,” McAfee disclosed. Before being allowed to return to our room after spending about 36 hours in the NICU, a FULL CELEBRATION took place. Since then, we have been circling this room, napping, burping, nursing, and changing diapers.
Before starting a new career as a sports host, McAfee was an NFL kicker for the Indianapolis Colts. He stated that he is currently in the hospital with his wife and Midas, but he hopes to come home later on Monday or Tuesday.
“Watching Samantha battle through her recovery has been nothing short of inspiring,” the 38-year-old wrote in an emotional ode to his wife Samatha.
“I’ll make sure our children understand how much you went through for them.” Every time I saw a boy, I couldn’t stop daydreaming about what his life would turn into. This young guy has a ton of options and dreams ahead of him.
McAfee talked about how much he enjoys being a parent and his intentions for his son to play sports in an exclusive interview with Daily Mail earlier this year. “Now that I have a two-and-a-half-year-old, I have no idea what I would have done [without kids],” McAfee remarked. I adore every aspect of it.
Regarding his son’s possible athletic career, he stated, “I do not want him to be a kicker.” I will definitely assist him if he wants to toss it a little. But if his dream is to become an astronaut? Excellent. I’m eager for everything.
