Owen Cooper finished his awards season clean sweep at Sunday’s BAFTA TV Awards, making him one of the most awarded young performers in history.

However, the 16-year-old Adolescence star still has a busy few weeks ahead of him because he is now doing his GCSE examinations, which are scheduled for May 4–June 26, 2026.

In January, at the height of awards season, the adolescent was taking his mock tests while also going to the US to pick up gongs.

This week, he will return to school in Warrington, Cheshire, following a glamorous evening at London’s Royal Festival Hall.

The young celebrity won Best Supporting Actor at the final awards event for the popular Netflix series on Sunday.

In addition to receiving critical acclaim for his portrayal as murder suspect Jamie Miller opposite Stephen Graham, Owen made history earlier this year when he became the youngest recipient of the Best Supporting Actor award at both the Golden Globes and the Emmy Awards.

Following his awards season sweep at Sunday’s BAFTA TV Awards, Owen Cooper has emerged as one of the most decorated young performers in history.

The 16-year-old Adolescence star is still in the midst of his GCSE exams, which run from May 4 to June 26 in 2026. He was pictured at the BAFTAs with his parents at Noreen and Andy.

In addition to the Gotham Awards, Independent Spirit Awards, and National Television Awards in the UK, the actor has received acting honours at all of the major American TV awards, including the Emmys, Golden Globes, and Critics Choice.

At the age of sixteen, he has already earned a BAFTA for his debut acting job, making him one of the most awarded young actors.

When Adolescence was being filmed, Owen was just 14 years old. He received tuition on site to help him stay on top of his coursework.

Additionally, Owen revealed his plans to do his GCSEs and subsequently drop out of school during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show in December, saying, “I still have my GCSEs to do.” He stated, “I only have about six months left before I’m gone, and then hopefully I’m going to be an actor.”

However, Owen acknowledged in September 2025 that school was going “terribly” and that arithmetic was his least favoured subject.”Do I really need to know algebra?” he asked US talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, “when you’re sitting at the Emmys and you’re with all these famous actors?” Owen said, “That’s what I think about every morning before I go to school.” “I don’t want to fail, but I want to pass.”

Owen received critical acclaim and numerous awards for his portrayal of murder suspect Jamie Miller against Stephen Graham.

In January, when awards season was at its peak, the adolescent was taking his mock examinations while also going to the US to pick up gongs.

The young celebrity won Best Supporting Actor at the final awards event for the popular Netflix series on Sunday.

When Adolescence was being filmed, Owen was just 14 years old. He received tutoring on set to help him stay on top of his coursework. Kimmel remarked, “If you fail, who cares?” “You’re a punk; you already have a leather jacket!”

Going into Sunday night’s BAFTA TV Awards, Adolescence had an incredible 11 nominations and the most wins ever for a series.

Best Actor went to Stephen Graham. Before winning the award for Adolescence, the 52-year-old actor disclosed that he had received eight nominations for programs such as Help, Time, and This Is England ’90.

Christine Tremarco, who portrayed Owen’s mother in the film, unexpectedly defeated co-star Erin Doherty, who had already won both the Golden Globe and the Emmy Award, for Best Supporting Actress.

In the Limited Drama category, the Netflix series triumphed over Fought The Law (ITV), Trespasses (Channel 4), and What It Feels Like For A Girl (BBC Three).
