Outraged lag’s mother claims that drugs are awash in the UK’s largest prison.

THE MOTHER OF A PRISONER IN THE UK’S MAJOR PRISON has claimed that the facility is overrun with drugs.

Mandy Davies told This website that her son Connor Davies, 30, has been in intensive care since attempting suicide on December 30.

Ms Davies, from Wrexham, said her son attempted to hang himself at HMP Berwyn after smoking synthetic Spice, a former legal high.

She explained that drugs are readily available in the £250 million Category C prison, which was built in 2017, and that they drove “Connor over the edge.”

“He has drug problems and needs psychiatric treatment, not prison,” she added.

“It’s a terrible situation inside.”

It’s incredible – there are drugs all over the place.

“They have inexperienced young people working there.”

“How can they have life experience at that age when some of the screws are younger than him (Connor)?”

“Because the prisoners are in charge, drugs are easy to obtain.”

“I’ve always said he should take care of his mental health and go to a secure mental health unit to get the help he needs.”

“I’ve told them this before, but they don’t seem to care.

“That day, something tipped him off.

His father and he had a fight.

“According to the doctor, he’s taken something that has pushed him over the edge.”

Ms Davies explained that at the time, her son was awaiting sentencing after admitting to stealing a car with the owner’s permission.

On January 14, he is scheduled to be sentenced at Mold Crown Court.

Ms Davies revealed that her son had a history of mental health issues and that she received a call from him in the hospital around 7 p.m. on December 30.

He was taken to the Maelor Hospital in Wrexham, North Wales.

He has since been transferred to Glan Clwyd Hospital near Rhyl, according to her.

He was woken up from an induced coma yesterday, but he is still in the hospital’s intensive care unit, according to her.

Drugs have been found in the prison in the past.

Drugs were discovered in Berwyn prison on hundreds of occasions last year, according to figures released in August.

According to Ministry of Justice data, 317 searches in HMP Berwyn turned up drugs in the year to March, down from 323 the previous year.
