Officials at the LA Detention Center said nine people were injured as deputies and inmates clashed at Pitchess.
According to accounts, nine people were injured in an altercation at a detention center in Los Angeles.
An confrontation between officers and convicts at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic resulted in the hospitalization of seven prison employees and two detainees.
According to officials, the incident began about 3.05 p.m. while personnel were doing security checks in the dorms when one of the detainees assaulted a deputy.
Deputies pepper blasted 20-25 detainees when more convicts became involved.
The injuries sustained by the seven deputies and two detainees who were brought to the hospital were not life threatening.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s spokesman, Alejandra Parra, claimed there was a “inmate disturbance” in a dormitory.
According to Sean Ferguson, a representative for the Los Angeles County Fire Department, reports of a medical emergency were received around 3.11 p.m.
A total of seven ambulances were dispatched to the scene.
Currently, the Pitchess Detention Center is under lockdown.
