‘Not a single brass farthing was given to pensioners!’ Linda slams the payout from Universal Credit.
Linda, a GB NEWS viewer, slammed Universal Credit payments, claiming that during the Covid outbreak, pensioners “didn’t get a brass farthing.”
Ministers from Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have urged the UK government to abandon proposals to eliminate the £20 rise in Universal Credit payments and instead make the higher rate permanent. They described the cut, which is set to take effect in September, as the “biggest overnight reduction to a basic rate of social security since the modern welfare state began, more than 70 years ago,” in a letter to Work and Pensions Secretary Therese Coffey. However, viewers of GB News want the giveaways to stop as presenter Patrick Christys reads emails from Brits.
“We’ve gotten way too generous and very much a handout nation,” wrote one viewer, Adam.
“Aid cuts must be made, or people will be encouraged to become scroungers.”
“This is not a credit cut, so quit making stuff up,” Joan continued. It’s just a stopgap measure.”
“Employed got furlough, jobless got more money, but pensioners didn’t get a brass farthing,” Linda observed.
