A newborn baby has been found dead at a home in Perth.
Emergency services rushed to the property on Cassidy Road at Thornlie in the city’s south-east at about 1pm on Wednesday.
The sex of the child is not yet known but it was believed to have been a newborn baby born in the early hours of the morning.
Friends called emergency services but the baby died shortly after it was delivered and before paramedics arrived.
Several police cars remained at the scene and the parents of the baby were assisting police into the afternoon.
The 26-year-old mother was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital in the back of an ambulance that was escorted by police.
The street was blocked off on Wednesday night as police remain on the scene.
The baby’s body is believed to still be on the property.
Officers from the coronial unit and local detectives are investigating.
