New Year’s Day: Are there openings for Asda, Sainsburys, Tesco and Aldi?

If you haven’t managed to get yourself a steak pie in time for New Year’s dinner, today you’re going to sprint to the shelves like crazy.

But like every year, the question is if the shops are open or not – even more so because mainland Scotland is on Stage 4, meaning that all non-essential shops are closed.

Here are the supermarkets in Scotland that are open and the latest corona virus data for each:

Aldi The Aldi

On New Year’s Day, Aldi is locked.

The next time the store opens its doors will be at 8 a.m. on Saturday, January 2. But don’t worry – they’re going to stay open a little longer, with a 10pm closing time.

If you go to Asda, then you are lucky. Many Asda stores, albeit with slightly different opening hours, are open today.

We suggest you find out the opening hours of your nearest branch here.

In Tesco

Opening hours for Tesco vary from country to country, but today it looks like most shops are open.

You can search the opening hours of your local store here.

It looks like today, Lidl will not be accepting clients. Throughout New Year’s Day, Lidl will be closed but will be available as usual on Saturday 2 January.

From Morrisons

With different trading hours, Morrisons will be open today. Doors will open at 9am and close at 6pm at several stores before opening as usual tomorrow.

Check out your local supermarket.

From Sainsbury’s

Similarly, today, Sainsbury’s will be open, but at different hours.

They’re going to open at 9 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. before opening tomorrow as usual.
