A woman has been found dead at a rural property in eastern Victoria shortly after a man she knew was involved in a car crash and put under police guard in hospital.
Police discovered the body of the woman, who is yet to be formally identified, at the property in Hedley in South Gippsland, 200km east of Melbourne, at 2.30am on Monday morning.
A 43-year-old man was involved in a crash nearby earlier in the night.
Homicide Squad detectives launched an investigation.
Police said the two were known to each other but the circumstances and cause of death were yet to be determined.
