Michael Schumacher’s family is ‘protecting’ the Formula One driver as they’move on with their lives’ following the accident.

MICHAEL SCHUMACHER’S family is still “protecting” him eight years after his tragic skiing accident, according to his wife Corinna, who claims in a new documentary that they are “getting on with their lives.”

Many believe the German racer to be the greatest driver in the history of motor sports, and he cemented his legend by winning seven world championships. In the years since he retired from Formula One and suffered a catastrophic brain damage in a skiing accident in the Swiss Alps, the 52-year-life old’s has been scrutinized. With remarkable interviews with people who knew him best, the new Netflix documentary Schumacher investigates the racing legend’s life before, during, and after his career.

It explains how Michael became a Ferrari racer and his rivalry with Ayrton Senna, as well as giving his family the opportunity to discuss how they have dealt with Schumacher’s accident since it happened.

Schumacher has not been seen in public since the tragedy and is currently healing.

His family has kept mute, preferring to keep his health fight private and respecting Schumacher’s wishes to remain anonymous.

In one of the documentary’s most poignant interviews, Schumacher’s wife Corinna discusses how the family is still committed to “preserving” the icon while “moving on with our lives.”

Corinna went on to say: “We’re all in this together. At home, we share a space. We are therapists. We do everything we can to help Michael feel better and more at ease.

“And just to make him feel like he’s a part of our family.

“And no matter what happens, I’ll do everything I can to help. We’ll all do it.

“We aim to maintain the family atmosphere that Michael enjoyed and still enjoys. And we’re going about our business.

“He constantly stated, ‘Private is private.’ It is critical to me that he be able to maintain as much of his private life as possible.

“Michael has always looked out for us, and now we are looking out for Michael.”

Corinna is also the mother of Mick Schumacher, who is now a Formula One driver.

She said that the 2013 event with Schumacher was “simply incredibly awful luck” and that she “misses Michael every day.”

Corinna, who is also 52 years old, added: “However, I’m not the only one who misses him. It’s the kids, his family, his father, and everyone else.
