‘Mexico turned red because I traveled there on an £8,000 trip,’ claims a horrified NHS nurse on vacation in Cancun.

As she and her family traveled across the Atlantic, Mexico was placed on the red list, putting an end to an NHS nurse’s £8,000 dream vacation.

If Rebecca Dean, her husband, and their four children do not return by 4 a.m. tomorrow, they will be charged £1,750 each for a 10-day stay in a UK quarantine hotel.

Thousands of other Britons are in a similar predicament.

“There was nothing to suggest Mexico would be placed on the red list,” Rebecca remarked from Cancun.

“After a long flight, we found out. It was a total disaster.”

“We had this vacation planned for over a year and kept a close eye on the issue on a daily basis,” she added.

“I was in full shock,” her son Jack said.

Mexico is in the midst of a third Covid outbreak, with 611 individuals dying from the illness on Wednesday, bringing the total to 242,547.

However, the Mexican government is concerned that the true figure could be as high as 60% higher.

Concerns have also been raised about a new Colombian Covid strain.

“Working through the night to get as many additional seats out of Mexico as possible,” British Airways said.

Grant Shapps, in a ray of hope, stated that countries will not “change color” until September “unless something unforeseen happens.”

However, the Transport Secretary stated that full travel immunization will be a requirement for Britons “forever,” and that countries might turn red again by the end of the month.
