Meghan’s ‘tears’ as she and friends watched Princess Diana’s burial.
According to a royal biographer, Meghan Markle was upset as she watched Princess Diana’s funeral with her school pals.
Diana’s death, according to royal biographer Andrew Morton, was a “inconceivable sorrow” for a 16-year-old Meghan and her friends. In the days after, Meghan and her friend Suzy Ardakani watched films of Diana and Prince Charles’ 1981 wedding, according to Mr Morton, who has updated his book Meghan: A Hollywood Princess.
Mr Morton, writing in the Mail on Sunday, said: “Tears streamed down the faces of 16-year-old Meghan Markle and her pals as they watched the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, particularly when the cameras zoomed in on the Royal coffin.
“There, among the white flowers, was an envelope with the single word ‘Mummy’ scribbled on it — Prince Harry’s final note to his mother, who had passed away.
“It was an unfathomable tragedy to Meghan and her classmates: how could a dazzling humanitarian in her prime perish in the terrible monotony of a vehicle accident?”
In the days after Diana’s death in August 1997, she reflected on the exceptional woman’s life.
“Meghan watched old recordings of Lady Diana Spencer – as she was at the time – and Prince Charles’ 1981 wedding with her friend Suzy Ardakani.”
Meghan was “intrigued not only by her elegance but by Diana’s independent humanitarian purpose,” according to Mr Morton.
Meghan’s friend Suzy’s mother, he claimed, gave her a copy of his book Diana: Her True Story.
