Meghan and Harry latest news: Duchess in Michelle Obama campaign tonight and pair were unhappy with Palace press rota

MEGHAN MARKLE will feature as a guest in Michelle Obama’s voting campaign tonight.

She will star alongside the First Lady and a host of other women in a bid to get more people to vote ahead of this year’s US presidential elections.

But Meghan has already received criticism for including her title of Duchess of Sussex for the virtual conference – with Royals typically neutral and stay out of politics.

Meanwhile, Finding Freedom co-author Omid Scobie has revealed that a disagreement over the press system at Buckingham Palace caused the first tensions before Harry and Meghan eventually split from the Firm.

Scobie told the Cut that the Prince spoke to senior aides in 2019, asking the couple to be allowed to speak to a wider and more diverse media.

But Buckingham Palace allegedly were remaining rigid, instead telling the Sussexes to “pay for their own engagements”.

MEG’S ‘SEVERE AND PLEADING’ GESTURES DEMONSTRATE STRONG POLITICAL VIEWS

She may not always be able to speak openly about politics- but tonight Meghan Markle conveyed her “strong political views” with “severe and pleading” gestures, a body language expert has claimed.

The Duchess of Sussex made an impassioned plea to get women to register to vote in the upcoming US election from her home in Santa Barbara– and said “if you’re complacent, you’re complicit”.

Speaking exclusively to Fabulous Digital, body language expert Judi James said Meghan’s “hard-hitting” message contrasted with her “pleading” gestures during her three-minute speech.

Judi said: “Meghan’s brand styling for this more political role was simple, basic and almost severe, suggesting she meant business even though she was emphatically appearing in her role as a Duchess.

“Her verbal message was also rather hard-hitting, warning about ‘what is at stake this year’ and ‘the change we all deserve’ as well as rallying women by telling them the ‘fight is worth fighting’, but she managed to soften the overall impact with her smiling and even affectionate-looking body language.”

MEGHAN MAKES IMPASSIONED PLEA TO GET WOMEN TO REGISTER TO VOTE IN US ELECTION – SAYING ‘IF YOU’RE COMPLACENT, YOU’RE COMPLICIT’

Meghan Markle has made an impassioned plea to get women to register to vote in the upcoming US election.

The Duchess of Sussex introduced her friend Michelle Obama’s virtual When All Women Vote campaign from her home in Santa Barbara this evening.

Taking a strong political stance, Meghan told viewers: “We are obviously faced with a lot of problems in our world right now – both in the physical world and in the digital world.

“But we can and we must do everything to ensure all women have their voices heard.

“Because at this juncture, if we are not part of the solution then we are part of the problem. If you aren’t going out there and voting then you’re complicit.

“And if you’re complicit, you’re complacent.”

MEG SAYS SHE’S ‘ENDLESSLY HAPPIER’ WHEN SHE AVOIDS ‘DRAMA’

Since Megxit was announced in January, there have been endless rumours as to why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry decided to step down as senior working royals.

And although the new biography Finding Freedom has attempted to shed light on the couple’s decision-making process, a resurfaced interview with the Duchess from 2015 reveals that she’s always hated “drama”.

The Duchess of Sussex – who has relocated to Santa Barbara with Harry and one-year-old Archie – said in a 2015 interview with InStyle that she has always tried to stay out of “office politics”.

Giving viewers insight into her work-life balance, the Suits star said: “In life, in the office, in any of that, stay out of the drama.

“You’ll be endlessly happier for it. If you want to do that, save that for drinks after work with your girlfriends.”

Before she married into the Royal Family last year, the Duchess also told the American magazine that she likes to “find balance” in her professional and personal life by “making time to throw in a yoga class or walk my dogs or literally just turn it all off and meditate for a minute.”

MEG AND HARRY FIRST CONSIDERED ‘BREAKING AWAY’ AFTER BUCKINGHAM PALACE REFUSED TO ‘RESTRUCTURE PRESS SYSTEM’

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry first began considering “breaking away” from the Royal Family after Buckingham Palace refused to “restructure the press system”, a royal author has claimed.

Omid Scobie – who co-authored the bombshell biography Finding Freedom – claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex expressed interest in moving away from the “royal rota” system last year.

He told The Cut: “In the summer of 2019, Harry actually had a conversation amongst his team and his senior aides within Buckingham Palace about restructuring that press system and making him and Meghan more accessible to a wider, more diverse media landscape.

“And the answer was well, “If you want to do that, you can pay for your own engagements”.

‘And so that was the first seed of, “Well, maybe we will break away, maybe we will do our own thing.”

As it is not always possible for all media organisations to go to every royal engagement, the current “royal rota” system allows representatives from each sector to cover it events as long as they share the material with other members of the sector.

MEGHAN MARKLE ‘STOOD UP’ AMERICAN DIRECTOR WHO ‘WORKED UP COURAGE TO ASK HER OUT’

She may be happily loved up with Prince Harry but Meghan Markle almost enjoyed a romance with an American film director.

Rob Perez, who wrote and directed 2002 movie 40 Days and 40 Nights, was delighted when the Duchess of Sussex accepted his offer of a drink at a Hollywood party – but the evening didn’t turn out quite as he would have hoped.

The American director – who now works as a sports producer – told his 325,000 Twitter followers: “Met Meghan Markle at a party in LA once.

“Worked up the courage to ask her if I could buy her a drink. Amazingly, she said yes.”

But while working his way over to the bar, Rob confessed that he “got distracted” watching a basketball game and was stood up by the Suits actress.

He added: “When I came back, she was gone.”

MEGHAN AND HARRY BLAST SOCIAL MEDIA ‘SHOUTING MATCH’ & URGE USERS NOT TO ENGAGE WITH TROLLS

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have described social media as a “shouting match” and urged users not to engage with trolls online.

The couple appeared on a video call with young Commonwealth leaders this afternoon – where Meghan said it was an “honour to continue the Queen’s legacy”.

While Prince Harry said social media is a “lot of noise”, Meghan encouraged users not to share material they found offensive.

She said: “Not becoming part of the culture of saying ‘this is so horrible’ and sharing it.

“If it’s horrible, stop it right there. I think that is a really key piece of the puzzle.”

MEGHAN GAVE WILLIAM HILARIOUS ‘CEREAL KILLER’ SPOON FOR XMAS, BOOK CLAIMS

Before her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018, Meghan Markle was invited to spend Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham – and according to a new biography, her presents were nothing short of hilarious.

In the biography Finding Freedom, royal authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand claimed that the Duchess of Sussex gave her brother-in-law spoon which had “cereal killer” inscribed on it.

The book claims that lavish presents are frowned upon by royals – so Meghan’s side-splitting present was reportedly a “huge hit” with her new family.

According to the Daily Star, the former Suits actress also hit the nail on the head when she bought The Queen a singing hamster toy for her first Christmas as a royal.

A source told the publication: “Meghan bought a little hamster that sings with a little rope for Her Majesty. It was so funny, especially when the corgis tried to take hold of the toy.”

The Queen reportedly “burst out laughing” and told Meghan: “It can keep my dogs company.”

ROYAL FANS CRITICISE MEGHAN FOR USING SUSSEX TITLE FOR US POLITICAL CAMPAIGN WITH MICHELLE OBAMA

Meghan is appearing in Michelle Obama’s virtual summit tonight being held to encourage voting participation.

Her presence at the When All Vote event has been introduced as “Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex” – and the use of her title in a political capacity appears to have upset a few royal fans.

Royal family members are traditionally expected to remain politically neutral, but the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior royals in March.

This gave them greater freedom to pursue topics close to their hearts, including politics.

Harry and Meghan still retain their Duke and Duchess titles despite stepping back, but in accordance with the deal struck with the Queen can’t use “royal” or their full HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) in future ventures.

Although they have adhered to this so far, this hasn’t stopped some royal fans from being frustrated over Meghan using her Duchess title at the political summit.

MEGHAN SAYS IT’S AN ‘HONOUR’ TO CONTINUE THE QUEEN’S LEGACY IN COMMONWEALTH CHAT

Meghan has said “it’s an honour to continue Queen’s legacy” after Harry said “wrongs of the Commonwealth must be righted”, during a new video call.

The Duke, 35, and Duchess of Sussex, 39, spoke with young leaders from the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust about how social media can be a “force for good”.

The discussion took place on Monday, with the couple speaking from their new £11million mansion in Santa Barbara, California.

In their last conversation with the Commonwealth Trust in July, the couple faced criticism for appearing to attack the British Empire, by saying the history “must be acknowledged”, even if it’s “uncomfortable”.

In their chat, which aired today on the QCT YouTube channel, Meghan spoke of her “incredible” pride at being able to work with the charitable organisation.

CHARLES SLAMS RUMOURS OF ‘HOT AND COLD’ RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN WILLIAM AND HARRY AS ‘COMPLETE NONSENSE’

Charles has slammed rumours of a rift with sons William and Harry as “complete nonsense”.

Co-author of bombshell biography Finding Freedom, Omid Scobie, claimed their “complicated” relationship ran “hot and cold” – but Palace sources say this is “wholly untrue”.

In an interview about the new royal book, Scobie shared an insight into the brothers’ relationship with their dad.

He discussed Charles’ official 70th birthday family photograph, which was reportedly an “absolute nightmare” to plan because of Harry and Wills.

But Scobie told Kate Thornton that it was in fact the brothers’ relationship with their dad that was the real issue.

But sources close to Charles have called the claims “complete nonsense” and “wholly untrue”, the Mirror reports.

HARRY AND MEGHAN PITCHING IDEAS TO ‘TOP HOLLYWOOD EXECUTIVES’

Harry and Meghan have been pitching top secret projects to Hollywood executives, a new report claims.

The former royal couple have been sharing their ideas with “numerous” media companies since they purchased their sprawling estate in Santa Barbara.

Meghan and Harry are planning to gain a foothold in Hollywood and intend to serve as joint producers on the venture should it get picked up, Variety claims.

Inside sources claim that NBC Universal was among the media outlets who heard the former royals' pitch.

A meeting is said to have been set up with top executives at the company, including Bonnie Hammer, the chairman of NBCUniversal Content Studios, who knew Markle from her years as an actor on Suits.

WHAT THE ROYALS GOT IN THEIR GCSE RESULTS

Following months of hard work and a long summer waiting to find out what their future holds, teenagers across the UK will finally get the results of their GCSE exams today.

And even members of the Royal Family aren’t exempt from endless revision and exam stress – but just how well did they fare in their GCSES?

While most students in the UK are encouraged to take at least five subjects for their Year 11 exams, Prince William finished school with an impressive 12 GCSES.

Prince Harry followed in his brother’s footsteps by also attending Eton College – but wasn’t quite as academic.

The Duke of Sussex still took 11 GCSEs and went on to achieve a B in Art A-Level and a D in Geography.

Having grown up in America, Meghan Markle didn’t have to study GCSEs but would have studied SATs to get into college.

Although it is not known what she achieved in her end-of-school exams, Meghan graduated with a double major in Theatre and International Relations from Northwestern University in 2003.

MEGHAN TO APPEAR AT MICHELLE OBAMA’S VIRTUAL SUMMIT TODAY TO ENCOURAGE VOTERS

The Duchess of Sussex, 39, will take part in the When All Women Vote Couch Party, being held as part of the When We All Vote initiative this afternoon.

Meghan will be appearing at 5pm ET (which is 10pm in the UK).

The virtual summit is described as aiming to honour “the 19th Amendment, celebrate the women of color who have fought to make the promise of the 19th Amendment a reality for ALL women, and highlight the need to expand voting rights for marginalized communities.”

Meghan spoke to Marie Claire earlier this month about the importance of voting.

She said: “I know what it’s like to have a voice, and also what it’s like to feel voiceless.

“I also know that so many men and women have put their lives on the line for us to be heard.”

HARRY AND MEGHAN WILL NOT FEATURE IN THE CROWN AS THERE IS ‘NOT ENOUGH DISTANCE’ FROM THEIR STORY

The Crown’s creator Peter Morgan has said modern royals such as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not feature in the hit show.

Peter says the final two series of the Netflix drama will bring it into the 21st century, but he has a “20-year rule” to “allow for persepective.”

He told The Hollywood Reporter: “Meghan and Harry are in the middle of their journey, and I don’t know what their journey is or how it will end.

“One wishes some happiness, but I’m much more comfortable writing about things that happened at least 20 years ago.”

ROYAL PHOTOGRAPHER ARTHUR EDWARDS SAID IT’S A ‘TRAGEDY’ HARRY AND WILLIAM ‘FELL OUT OVER MEGHAN’

Royal photographer Arthur Edwards has said it’s a “tragedy” Prince Harry and William “fell out over Meghan Markle” as they always worked together “wonderfully”.

Appearing on This Morning, The Sun’s legendary royal photographer – who has been taking photos of the family since 1977 – said Prince Harry and Prince William had a “very close” relationship.

“Since they were born I watched them grow up together and they were very close,” he said. “The tragedy is they are no longer talking to each other and it must be over Meghan.

“Because before that Harry, Catherine and William were doing wonderful things together, the mental health charity, they were inspired.”

MEGHAN PUTS ‘SO MUCH DETAIL’ INTO EVERY LOOK, CLAIMS HAIRDRESSER

Meghan may always looks effortlessly chic – but according to an insider, a lot of time and effort goes into each of her looks.

Speaking to Grazia, Meghan’s former hairdresser and close friend George Northwood revealed that the Duchess every aspect of her looks are “very well thought out”.

He said: “Her hair often looks so effortless but she’s actually the most thoughtful person, even down to the smallest detail like her jewellery.

“We worked together for two years – and I hope to continue whenever she’s back in the UK – collaborating to create the effortlessly cool buns that she wears as well as the sleek, polished hair.”

MEGHAN’S FRIENDSHIP WITH IVANKA ‘AIR-BRUSHED’ FROM BOOK, SAYS CRITIC

Meghan’s friendship with Ivanka Trump was “conveniently airbrushed” from the new biography Finding Freedom, a columnist has claimed.

Craig Brown, a critic and satirist, says that the Duchess of Sussex’s association with Donald Trump’s daughter was not mentioned to protect her “mission.”

On her now-defunct blog The Tig, Meghan wrote of the president’s daughter in 2014 calling her “staggeringly beautiful” and “intelligent”.

And in his book, Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, Andrew Morton reveals Meghan “was thrilled when Ivanka agreed to fill in her simple questionnaire for Tig Talk.

“More thrilled when she accepted her invitation to meet for drinks and dinner the next time Meghan was in New York.”

Writing on The Tig, Meg gushed: “When we have drinks, I will make sure I order whatever she does – because this woman seems to have the formula for success (and happiness) down pat.”

HARRY AND MEGHAN WILL RETURN TO THE UK FOR CHARITY WORK, IT IS CLAIMED

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit the Royal Family this year – upping sticks from the UK to start their new life in the US.

And while Finding Freedom biographer Omid Scobie today said it was unlikely the couple would become working royals again, he claimed they would start “undertaking trips to the UK, both privately and professionally” when coronavirus restrictions were lifted.

Speaking with Royal Central, the reporter said: “Harry and Meghan have made it clear that their work in the UK, including their royal patronages, will continue.

“While their base will be in the US, I think once travel restrictions ease we will see them moving around again and undertaking trips to the UK, both privately and professionally.”

MEGHAN AND HARRY’S BIOGRAPHY BECOMES A UK BEST-SELLER

The bombshell biography of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry has become the best-selling book in the UK after 31,000 copies flew off the shelves in just five days.

Finding Freedom, which lifts the lid on the couple’s exit from the Royal Family, has also topped the Amazon US and UK best-selling charts.

According to data provider Nielsen Book, the book – co-written by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand – sold 31,000 copies in Britain in the first five days of its release.

Their explosive book offers an insight into the Duke and Duchess’ life as senior royals and contains details of how they left the family – in a move dubbed Megxit.

MEGHAN UNVEILED AS SURPRISE GUEST AT VIRTUAL SUMMIT BEING HELD TO BOOST VOTING PARTICIPATION.

The Duchess of Sussex, 39, will take part in the When All Women Vote Couch Party, being held as part of the When We All Vote initiative tomorrow.

The royal mum-of-one will appear alongside Glamour editor-in-chief Samantha Berry, actor Yvette Nicole Brown, businesswoman Valerie Jarrett and DJ Diamond Kuts.

When We All Vote was launched in 2018, and boasts Michelle Obama as one of the co-chairs.

Meghan will be appearing at 5pm ET (which is 10pm in the UK).

MEGHAN & HARRY PITCH TO HOLLYWOOD BOSSES & DUCHESS PICKS UP BRITISH ACCENT

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been settling into their new life in the US having recently moved into their new Santa Barbara home.

And it seems the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are ready to rid themselves of their royal ties and embrace a showbiz lifestyle to boot.

The couple have been pitching top secret projects to Hollywood executives, a new report claims.

Meghan and Harry are planning to gain a foothold in Hollywood and intend to serve as joint producers on the venture should it get picked up, Variety claims.

Inside sources claim that NBC Universal was among the media outlets who heard the former royals’ pitch.

But Meghan isn’t ready to totally abandon all aspects of the UK.

The former actress, 39, has apparently picked up a British accent during her two years living here with Prince Harry.

A source said: “Meghan was the all-American girl before she met Harry, but since living in the UK she’s adopted certain phrases.

“Her staff think it’s amusing to listen to an American celebrity using Britishisms. She’s often heard saying, ‘Oh dahling,’ to people at home.

“They do have a giggle about it and sometimes they do impressions of her but only in a light-hearted way. It’s funny to them.”
