Man Utd ‘willing to pay’ £134m to land Atletico Madrid star as Paul Pogba replacement

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly prepared to pay £134m for Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez if they sell Paul Pogba.

The Red Devils are desperately trying to keep Pogba at the club beyond the summer.

But with Real Madrid equally as willing to pinch the Frenchman, United may be forced to part ways with their club-record signing.

Should that happen, Spanish outlet AS are reporting that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side would be willing to meet Atletico’s valuation of Saul.

The midfielder has a €150m (£134m) release clause in his contract, which the Old Trafford outfit ‘intend’ to pay if Pogba leaves.

Saul was in talks with Atleti over a new deal earlier this year.

The two parties took a break but are now back at the negotiating table trying to thrash out terms.

This new deal will only see Saul’s salary increase, with the length of the contract and his release clause staying as it is at present.

Jan Oblak is the highest earner at the club but will probably be matched by his team-mate if a new deal is agreed.

Solskjaer is still looking for new players this window after adding Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to his ranks.

“We are still in the market, we want more deals,” he said in Australia this week.

“We don’t have to sell, but we also don’t have to over-pay.

“Looking at our squad now, we have a good squad.

“This squad will have to be more robust once the season gets going.

“Last season we had a run without defeats, but the end was disappointing.”

But the United boss doesn’t want Pogba to depart in the next few weeks.

“Well there has been loads of talks and speculation, about many of our players,” he added.

“For me, it is business as usual. When you are at Man United you expect these things to pop up in the summer.

“I have spoken to Pogba, [Romelu] Lukaku, [Marcus] Rashford, Jesse [Lingard] and as far as I’m aware we don’t have any bids for any of our players.

“We do not have to sell players. Paul, it looks like it is going to be media.

“He is a top professional, there have never been any problems.

“Jesse and Pogba walking around, portrayed as fight between the two boys, but that is nothing. No problems whatsoever.”
